It’s welcome home Sunday and we officially move forward with so much anticipation as we claim our new name “Coastline Church”. With so much excitement around our new name, Ps. Andy reminds us, we are still the same church, with the same mission and same pillars. We have a heart for young adults, we have always been a home of revival and God is still calling us to bring revival to Vancouver island, in helping people know God no matter what coastline they find themselves on.

What if we’ve been tackling this whole Christianity thing all a bit wrong? Have we been so focused on doing the right thing or “being better” that we’ve forgotten it’s not about keeping score? We need to stop playing “checklist Christianity” where we keep score of things we should do or shouldn’t do and weigh ourselves against our behaviour. We have to fix our eyes on Jesus and recognize his sacrifice, his blood, and his body broken on the cross speaks a better word over us.

As a church, we are moving ahead in a beautiful direction. A new Church name, a vision that puts a priority on training and releasing the young and a focused passion on discipleship and unity. Paul’s prayer at the end of Ephesians 3 is that we would see God’s power work within us and that God would do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” We know that the Holy Spirit comes with power, yet how come we don’t always live and see that Eph 3:20 life? In this sermon, we talk about the one part of the trinity that for some makes us uncomfortable. Yet why is that? Why do we get anxious when we are talking about the Holy Ghost? “Is that true?” A simple and profound question that seems to pop up daily in everyone's mind in today’s world. Truth to many is a relative term but Jesus constantly spoke in absolutes and He was more than suggesting ideas that “could be true”. He in fact pointed to himself as truth. Similar to the story we read together, we have all asked ourselves (and Jesus) that difficult deep question, what is truth? Jesus answers it, but are we ready to hear it? Or will we be like Pilate and be silenced by the crowd, walking away before ever seeing and understanding how important the answer is for life today.

Our minds and hearts often drift towards the thought of eternity. We are constantly thinking about what happens after death, what happens when this is all over and not just WHAT.. but how do I get to heaven if it's real? The issue with the question is not our desire to be with Jesus forever, but the idea that we need to do something or have something to get there. Jesus points out to the rich young ruler… that until you understand “lack” you’ll never understand your need for a saviour. Until you recognize your need for a saviour, you’ll never understand how to inherit eternal life.
